How can I cope with my stress?
Change your attitude
- Find other ways to think about stressful situations: "Life is 10% what happens to us, and 90% how we react to it."
- Use positive self-talk: "I have handled difficult things before, and I can do it again."
- Practice acceptance: Learn to accept things that we cannot change, without trying to exert more control over them
Give yourself time
- Take time for yourself to relax, which is just as important as giving time to other activities
- Schedule time in your day just for yourself so that you can recharge for all the other things that you need to do
Build a support system
- Find someone to talk to about your feelings and experiences (family, friends). Expressing our feelings can be relieving, we can feel supported by others, and it can help us work out our problems
- Sometimes it is important to seek out professional help to deal with our stress
Take care of yourself
- Eat healthy, be active, make time for things that you enjoy doing
- Exercise: regular exercise can help relieve some symptoms of stress, build confidence, self esteem, and self image
