Expect resistance; Plan for it!

Social support for women’s physical activity is not the norm; support from family and friends may be limited.
  • Society rewards women for how they take care of others, not necessarily how they care for themselves (Kluge, Mary Ann, Journal of Aging and Physical Activity, 2002)
  • Seek support from active women and women’s groups.
  • Seek support from your spouse or partner; be specific about the importance of physical activity to your health.
  • Expect your children to resist; plan for it.
  • Be aware that most people do not appreciate that ‘50% of the changes of aging are due to physical inactivity’
