FEEL THE POWER FEEL FIT ADDS A NEW PARTNER AND NEW SITE!

Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario Hamilton

Public Library, Red Hill Branch

HAMILTON, ON – May 5, 2008 – With support from a new partner, the Feel the Power Feel Fit Club is reaching out to more women in Hamilton. The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario is joining other partners in the community just as the program is expanding to a new site at the Red Hill Branch of the Hamilton Public Library.

Feel the Power Feel Fit Club provides women who live or work in Hamilton with free opportunities and resources to become physically active. It is funded by Healthy Living Hamilton and already supported by the City of Hamilton Public Health Services, City of Hamilton Community Services, YWCA Hamilton, Canadian Diabetes Association, and K-LiteFM.

On Wednesday, May 7, the Club is launching a new site at the Red Hill Branch of the Hamilton Public Library. As a source of inspiration for many personal pursuits, the library serves as a natural meeting place for the community. The site will allow the Club to reach women in a familiar setting and help decrease the barriers to participating in physical activity such as transportation, access, and inconvenience. Access to free programs such as the Feel the Power Club connects women with the information they need to advance their personal fitness goals. All women are invited to the Red Hill Branch, 695 Queenston Road at 7:00 – 8:00 p.m on May 7 to learn more about the Club and how regular physical activity can fit into their busy schedules.

The launch will also welcome the Heart and Stroke Foundation as a new partner. The Heart and Stroke Foundation is a volunteer-based health charity that leads in eliminating heart disease and stroke through the advancement of research, promotion of healthy living, and advocacy.  The partnership with the Feel the Power Feel Fit Club is strongly linked to the HSFO mission, to promote healthy living and collaborate with community partners to eliminate heart disease and stroke. It has been widely supported in the literature that regular physical activity reduces the risk of heart disease and stroke. This partnership will promote physical activity as 47% of Hamilton residents are physically inactive.

The Feel the Power Feel Fit Club is currently offered at the Ottawa Street YWCA and the Main Hess Seniors Centre. For more information about the events or Club, please visit the Healthy Living Hamilton website at www.doitwell.ca
