Outreach For Understanding Project

What is the "Outreach for Understanding Project"?

A partnership between The City of Hamilton Public Health Services, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), Healthy Living Hamilton (HLH), and community members of the HLH Equal Access for Multicultural Health workgroup, the project is focused on collecting data from one of the largest ethnic communities in Hamilton as identified in the 2001 census tract data from Statistics Canada: the South Asian community.

Through a series of focus groups led by hired facilitators from the South Asian community, data has been collected to determine the strengths and needs of Hamilton's South Asian community in order to develop culturally sensitive programs, services and messaging that address general health, mental health, and addiction issues; and, to construct a valid needs assessment template which may be applied with other ethnolinguistic groups.
